Hope Family Services opens a third site, in Heflin, with free tests and ultrasounds

Pregnancy Help News reported on May 7, 2026 that Hope Family Services has opened a third location at Hearts of Cleburne in Heflin. Founded in 1983 as Save a Life Calhoun County, it already had sites in Jacksonville and Anniston. The Heflin site offers free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds.

Executive Director Amy McDonald said pregnancy tests rose 125 percent over the past year, and another 114 percent in the first three months of 2026. An open house was held in March 2026. The Heflin space is rent-free on Hearts of Cleburne’s second floor. Hearts already offered parenting classes and family resources. It did not offer pregnancy tests or ultrasounds until this partnership.

Since 2018 the organization has provided ultrasound with Dr. Braden Richmond as medical director. McDonald told the reporter that because abortion is illegal in Alabama, the work is focused differently than in states that permit abortion. Ultrasounds are used for women considering abortion and for women who need a scan to enroll in Medicaid. Staff moved the ultrasound window from eight weeks to six weeks so they could be available earlier. Clients who choose to parent are invited into parenting classes. In a hundred days the organization received more than a hundred car seats.

The Alabama Baptist covered a January 14, 2024 dedication of the Jacksonville Hope Family Services Sav-A-Life site next to West Side Baptist Church, near Jacksonville State University, with counseling offices, supplies, classes, and sonogram space.

If you already took the first pill and you want this pregnancy to continue, talk with a nurse — or go to the center for a test or scan at their location. A nurse will talk in chat, or write back if you send the form. Free and private. You decide.
